Root Shoot Malting's Pilsner malt is light, clean, traditional, crisp malt. Straw-forward with bready undertones. Higher beta-glucan, resulting in a more robust mouthfeel. Excellent base malt for traditional German lagering. Root Shoot Malts are crafted to highlight the individual characteristics and terroir of their Loveland CO-grown grains.

More about Root Shoot Malting Pilsner:
Root Shoot Malting grows and malts AMBA-approved LCS barley variety Genie. Genie is quickly becoming a preferred Spring 2-Row barley option for all-malt styles for beer across the US, with a malting profile tailored for the craft industry. It has naturally lower levels of protein, offering farmers an opportunity to push yields while still landing safely within specifications.

I used a multi-step mash with decoction to maximize the typical malt/pilsner flavors, but I’m not sure that’s necessary. The house smelled great during brew day, and there were no problems with grain prep and conversion. It’s now fermenting - can’t wait to taste it in 10 weeks.
Brewed a German Pilsner with Root Shoot Pilsner using pressure fermentation. Great process to speed up lager fermentation. Tasty results.
