bought it thinking it was a fuel for wort...then found out the extra equipment that was needed that i did not have
It was so easy to do a yeast starter with product.
I hadn't made a starter in years (moved to dry yeast primarily). I'd seen this stuff around but never really considered it as I had a jar of DME available for the same purpose...until I didn't. It's convenient and shelf stable which I can appreciate. Based on how many batches I do that don't require starters, this stuff meets my needs for when I actually do.
First time making a starter. I watched some videos and it was as easy as explained. No time at all to get it started and worked as expected.
Works very well! I let yeast and propper starter warm up to room temp by pulling them out of the fridge before I go to bed... Get up grab the distilled water (less than $1 at any grocery store)... sanitize a flask, pour in the starter, fill the can with distilled water to measure out 16oz, pour that into the flask, add yeast, magnet pill, and on to the stir plate she goes... Takes like 5 minutes.
