Review Cont.

I had done my original review and stated that the color was too light compared to the original, now that I poured a few beers from my keg, the color is spot on to the original. I also noticed that the original has a slightly bitter hop taste, my version is slightly sweeter possibly due to the lower final gravity. Based on this I would like to change my rating to 5 stars, well done AIH!

Highly Hopped

When I received this kit I thought that there were a lot of hops. The IBU's are listed as 157 which is much greater then Sierra Nevada's version at 65. I entered the %AA from the hops packet into Beersmith and my version came in at 120 IBU. My color was not like Sierra Nevada's, mine is a golden color which is lighter than the original. Taste wise mine had the signature hops smell and flavor of a Sierra Nevada product, nice aroma and well blended taste. My version came in at 8.5% ABV using US-05 yeast, my FG came in lower at 1.010. Needless to say I hope that I don't empty the keg before I get a chance to bottle some to enter in a beer competition. I will enter my version as a double IPA due to the high IBU and ABV. I won't enter my beers in a competition unless I feel that it is worthy of an excellent rating (38+ points). This kit is worthy of 5 stars but I subtracted 1 star for missing the color and IBU of the original.
