Jeffrey Lewis took home the gold medal in the 2013 National Homebrew Competition for this stellar recipe for Schwarzbier, which is a German dark lager. Schwarzbier has never made an appearance as a recipe for Big Brew in the past, and the AHA is proud to highlight this exciting style to homebrewers around the world! Black Dog Lager Classic Schwarzbier. A slight malty sweetness is complimented with a light roasted chocolate finish Dry yeast is optional, but original recipe calls for Wyeast or White Labs.

nice dark lager

Malty, sweet and smooth. I added an extra 11oz of Rahr to get to an even 10lbs of grain. 6.3%ABV

Good Schwarzbier Recipe!

Easy to brew great flavor light not too roasty. Here is what I did for BIAB mash 148F recirculate 45min / 158F rest 30min / 170F mash out 10min. Boil keep the same and add 1/2 tsp yeast nutrient 15min left. Yeast I pitched 1 dry pack of Lutra and added 1 vial clarityferm 84F. Fermented 4 days at 78F.
