Great flavored porter

This beer is fantastic after 2ish months in the keg. I only used half of the hazelnut flavoring because it smelled so strong I was afraid of overpowering. Could have used the whole thing as it mellowed nicely. This is a great beer and I've been told to keep it in rotation.

Good Recipe

AIH scaled this to a one gallon batch for me. It turned out great for a cold night. I have had multiple requests to make this again. May try adding vanilla to the fermenter next time to compliment it.

Surprising

Initially, I thought this porter was too sweet. As time has gone on, the sweetness mellowed out. Must have been the priming sugar and my impatience...lol. I had one yesterday after a peat-smoked porter and the hazelnut flavor was strong and bold. Darned fine porter.

Great recipe

Recipe was easy and the beer smells and tastes great (coming from a guy who doesn't care much for porters.) One possible fix to the recipe: In step 5 (aroma hops) it says to add the hops after 5 minutes of boiling- this should be at 5 minutes remaining. Could trip up someone who hasn't brewed before. I'd definitely do this kit again next winter.

Delicious brew!

On our 3rd batch! Really excellent brew for an extract. I suggest liquid yeast and a starter, and giving plenty of time to mature! On the second and third times making this we added 1/2 the hazelnut and the entire dram of butter toffee plus some lactose and cocoa at the end of the boil! Delish!
