I have used these oak chips for both a whiskey barrel stout and a double oak IPA. I soak the chips in whiskey for one week and then add to the secondary fermenter for 2 weeks (add both oak chips and whiskey to the secondary). Definite oak and whiskey flavor in the finished product.
Packaged in Heat-sealed thick plastic baggie (not vacuum sealed), condition looks bright, vibrant, and shiny in a nice way, no noticeable odor, looks fresh. Never have used oak before, currently testing on oaking a kombucha batch; forgot to boil the oak so might re-strain, boil, and then re-add. I'll see how it goes.
